The ocean is the least explored part of our planet, yet it potentially yields a solution to the majority of the problems we encounter in our world today. Through maritime exploration and research, REV has the potential to discover countless new solutions to critical issues like food shortages, efficient and effective sources for new energy, and the delicate health of our oceans.

REV Ocean is a non-profit organisation founded by Kjell Inge Røkke with the goal of making the world’s oceans healthier through extensive research using the latest in cutting edge maritime technology. Four connected initiatives have been developed to realise this goal: the REV Ocean Research Expedition Vessel (REV Ocean), the World Ocean Headquarters (WOH), the Ocean Data Foundation (ODP) and Plastic REVolution.

The Research Expedition Vessel

The REV (Research Expedition Vessel) will be the world’s largest ocean research vessel with the goal of aiding in the research and exploration of our oceans. Set for completion in 2021, the vessel will be made available to everyone from scientists to philanthropists that share our goal of transforming the health of our oceans for the better. The REV will also be made available to science-based projects free of charge and commercial hire, with the revenue being reinvested into future scientific ventures.

The goal of this vessel is set to shift attention to the health of our oceans and to use the data collected to better understand them. Transforming our world for the better is not possible alone, and being a collaborative effort between skilled and passionate professionals from around the world combined with the technology to do so — the time has finally come for change.

REV Ocean

REV Ocean is a game-changing initiative that has an ambitious yet simple goal — to ensure ‘One Healthy Ocean’. The ocean is a dynamic, interconnected global ecosystem that can recover if the negative pressures currently affecting the oceans are dealt with effectively. Working together with an extensive network of strategic partners we will champion a new generation of ocean solutions and inspire humanity to take action to combat harmful global impacts on the marine environment.

A Powerful Identity.

When asked to create a branding package for REV Ocean, Myreze was incredibly excited to be a part of this revolutionary movement with the goal of creating a better world. REV required a powerful identity that reflects the strong impact it will deliver in the fight against ocean pollution.

Logo

We wanted to start with the creation of their logo, and one that reflects REV’s core values and provides a direct association to the environment, life and ecosystem of the ocean. It should be familiar but unique enough to not be associated with fishing or any activities harmful to marine life. We created a bold and expressive design that represents the areas where 25% of all life in the ocean is found — Coral reefs.

Colors

The colours used are also expressive of the ocean. Inspired by water, the vibrant tones associated with the diverse array of life found in coral reefs gives a powerful modern look that demands attention. The logo serves as a strong graphic against a variety of different colour combinations and can easily be reversed to contain the colour itself for an active and inspirational representation of REV.

Branding Options and Property

The symbolic element of the logo is identifiable enough to be separated from “REV” to be used in a variety of ways and for any application, from business cards to physical signage on buildings etc. It is also designed to be broken-down into graphic elements which can be recombined into aesthetically appealing patterns that are beautiful and expressive. Such patterns can be used in unlimited ways, such as its integration into office decorations, advertisement or website communication.

Every element in REV’s branding is connected even down to the name, with “REV” being the Norwegian translation of the word “reef”, matching the organisation’s abbreviation and perfectly linking our concept together with their mission.

To Summarise

The ocean is a dynamic, interconnected global ecosystem that requires all of us to engage in the effort to maintain the health of our oceans and explore the possible solutions that can make our world a better place. And with a branding package that fully expresses REV’s mission and goals, bringing awareness to the ocean’s cause has never been more impactful.

The more we know about our oceans, the better chance we have of providing the data we need to better understand how to take care of our world.
